SHAMPOO MISTAKES TO BREAK

YOU ARE USING THE SAME SHAMPOO 7 DAYS A WEEK, 365 DAYS A YEAR

Washing your hair this many times a week is not only too frequent, but using the same shampoo over and over is not good either. Changing your shampoo's occasionally and regularly is important to prevent buildup especially from certain ingredients like silicone's.

YOUR HAIR ISN'T WET ENOUGH BEFORE APPLYING SHAMPOO

If your hair isn't wet enough than shampoo isn't going to lather properly, which means more product is going to be used, resulting in spending more money, more often on shampoo products. Make sure your hair is really wet before applying any shampoo. Your wallet will love you!

YOU ALWAYS BEGIN APPLYING THE SAMPOO TO THE SAME SPOT ON YOUR HEAD

Do you ever feel like your hair is always weighed down and more oily in the same spot or maybe your scalp is dryer in certain areas than others? This could be caused by beginning to apply your shampoo to the same spot on your head every single time. Try alternating the way you apply your shampoo, whether it's starting at the nape of your neck or to the sides of your head, etc.

WASHING YOUR HAIR TOO VIGOROUSLY

If you find your hair is breaking or your hair is really tangled when combing out while it's wet, you might be too rough on your hair when shampooing. Try massaging your head with your fingertips and/or the palms of your hands, not your fingernails. Your hair will thank you later!

RINSING WITH HOT WATER

If you are rinsing with hot water, stop now! Rinsing with hot water may cause your hair and scalp to become more dry and to fade your colour treated hair. Rinse with luke warm water when shampooing and cool water when rinsing conditioner, as this helps lock in moisture from conditioning and it also preserves colour treated hair from fading.

The list of products below are some of my favorite hair products that I absolutely love, xo!!

CHOOSING THE RIGHT HAIRBRUSH

When it comes to hairbrushes and combs, you probably only need at least 2-3 different brushes. Choosing the right brush and/or comb all depends on your hair type and how you style your hair on a regular basis.

The following are a list of hairbrushes for the every day girl...

Detangling Hairbrush or Wide Tooth Comb: This brush and comb is great for detangling wet hair.

Paddle Brush: This is a multitasking brush that is great for detangling hair, adds volume to the crown while blow drying and this brush also gives a smooth blowout.

Boar Bristle Oval Cushioned Brush: Boar brushes are made out of natural boar bristles which allows the natural oils on the hair to be distributed evenly throughout the hair from roots to ends. This brush is great for just about anything from combing your hair, smoothing out flyaways, brushing out curls to create loose waves and even teasing. Using this brush minimizes breakage, split ends and is great for detangling.

Small Boar Bristle Brush: Used for teasing {back combing hair} and great for taming flyaways and bangs.

Boar or Nylon Bristle Metal Brush: This brush is versatile for straight and curly haired gals. For thick straight hair, this is great for adding curl to your hair and for thick curly hair, it's great for creating tension

Bristle Round Brush: This brush is great for adding waves to the hair as well as bounce and shine during your blowout. It's also great for adding volume to side bangs.

Ceramic or Metal Round Brush: This is a vented brush that allows air to pass through the brush to allow air flow to circulate at root level, speeding up drying time from any angle. The metal brush heats up allowing you to be able to curl your hair without a curling iron.

Rat Tail Comb: This comb can be used to part hair with the pointed handle, used to tease hair and it's also used for finishing and styling the hair as well.

Types of Brushes that I use:

Wide Tooth Comb
To comb out and detangle my wet hair

Boar Bristle Oval Cushioned Brush
My hair is naturally pretty oily but my ends are drier. I love to use this brush because it allows the natural oils to be distributed down the hair shaft to the ends of the hair where my hair is drier. I did a post on Boar Bristle Brushes. You can read all about it here.

Bristle Round Brush
I love to use this brush to give my hair volume and body

Teasing Brush
I tend to back comb the crown of my hair to add volume and I also use this brush to tease my hair for certain hairstyles as well.

STRIPES

Top- Ralph Lauren | Pants- Guess | Bag- Guess | Watch- Guess | Shoes- Old Navy | Sunglasses- Ray bans

Happy Friday, I hope everyone had a great week!

Today's outfit is yet another "nautical" look that I like to wear. There is just something about navy and white stripes that I am drawn to and the two colours are also a favorite of mine. Being on a boat during the summer months is one of my favorite things to do and this outfit reminds me of that.
Like I have mentioned before these boat shoes are just the most comfortable shoes to wear and if you have these pair from Old Navy or if you have a pair of Sperry's, I am sure you will agree with me.

Have a great weekend and thank you so much for reading, xo!!

FALL READY

Sweater- Jacob | Pants- American Eagle | Boots- Aldo | Scarf- Aldo | Watch- Guess | Nails- Essie Fifth Avenue

Riding boots have to be one of my favorite boots to wear during the fall and winter months. It's such a classic boot and goes with pretty much anything. I have always loved the look of a light sweater, dark jeans and a scarf paired with riding boots. I also tend to wear these boots a lot with my black Lululemon Wunder Under leggings with a big heavy cable knit sweater {which I will be posting next week}. It is seriously the most comfortable outfit to wear in the cooler months!

I hope you all have a great weekend. I am headed up north to a resort and spa with my boyfriend and some friends. We are going to be going on a pontoon boat to explore the lake/ cottages, campfires= s'mores, heated pools/ hot tubs and some relaxation. I am so excited!!

Have a great weekend and thank you so much for all of your sweet comments that you always leave, xo!!

THOSE FAVORITE PIECES

Sweater- Abercrombie & Fitch | Tank- Old Navy | Pants- American Eagle | Sandals- Old Navy | Bag- Guess | Sunglasses- Raybans

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today's outfit is an outfit I wore over the weekend. I did a lot of running around on Saturday and with the weather starting to get cooler, sweaters are starting to be incorporated into my outfits. I have seriously had this sweater for probably over four years now and it's still one of my favorite sweaters to wear. These pant's have also been a favorite this summer, the colour of them is so pretty, and I really love the zipper detail at the bottom of the pant.

The summer's are so short here in Canada and I tend to wear sandals as long as I possible can, usually until the end of October is when I will officially retire them. If I could wear them until November, I really would, but that's pushing it lol.

What has been your favorite piece of clothing this summer?

I hope you all had a great weekend, and thanks for reading, xo!!

HALF-UP BRAIDED CROWN

Top- American Eagle Cute Option | Crops- Lululemon | Shoes- {Old} Spring | Bag- Guess | Bracelet- Pandora | Sunglasses- Ray Bans

Happy Friday!

Lately, I have been totally obsessed with wearing my hair half-up half-down with a braided crown. It's so girly and yet it's different from your traditional half-up half-down hairstyle which I love. What's great about this hairstyle is that it goes with any outfit, whether you're going for a casual look, like what I am wearing above or if you are dressing up for a night on the town. It's also so quick and easy to do as well. I usually like to leave some of my bangs out along the sides of my face but I also like to switch it up and braid them back, which also looks really pretty. I also like to either curl or have my hair wavy when I do this hairstyle as it looks more put together but you can also wear your hair straight with the bangs braided back or your hair pulled into a low messy bun or pony tail which I like to do!

What is your favorite braided hairstyle?

Have an amazing weekend sweet readers, xo!!

DRESSING DOWN

Sometimes on weekends I like to totally dress down, wear flip flops and tie my hair back and do nothing. Lately it has been very humid and hot and there is nothing worse than having your hair down and your bangs sticking to your face and hair that ends up going haywire. It's so frustrating!!! I love wearing my hair down but there is nothing better than having my hair tied back and out of my face.
I have been wearing my hair a lot like this lately and you will see a lot more of this "side messy bun" in my upcoming posts. I have been obsessed with this hairstyle and the messier the bun the better!! Not to mention, this hairstyle can be dressed up also...

What is your favorite way to wear your hair in the warmer months? Leave it in the comments below!

I hope you had a great weekend and thanks for reading, xo!!

TIPS TO PROLONG YOUR HAIR COLOUR

Once I started going to a hair salon and paying big bucks for my hair colouring appointments, I have learned that taking care of my colour and making my colour "last" was a definite must. As all of you know, I am a blonde and being a blonde is definitely high maintenance in keeping it healthy and brass free. Regardless if you are blonde or not, the following tips will help you prolong your colour in between touch ups.

1. PICK THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

Use a shampoo or conditioner with colour protecting ingredients that is directly for your specific shade and avoid styling products like gel and mouse with alcohol listed in the top six ingredients as this will dry your hair out.

2. LEAVE IT A LITTLE DIRTY

If you over shampoo the colour is just going to wash down the drain faster. Try washing every other day or less if you don't have oily hair. In between washes, tackle the roots with some dry shampoo.

3. DEEP CONDITION

The chemical in dyes leave the hair porous and most of the time leaving your hair dry, so to keep it feeling soft and looking healthy, apply a deep conditioner once or twice a week after shampooing starting from the nape of your neck and down to the ends and I even like to apply it to my bangs as well. Clip your hair up and let it sit for 10-15 minutes (I leave it on for 20-30 minutes sometimes) then rinse with cool water as this will help seal the cuticle and lock in moisture. If you want to boost the effectiveness, apply a shower cap once you have applied the deep conditioner and let it sit for the same amount of time.

4. SHOWER SMARTER

One of the biggest reasons of fading is the shower. You don't want to rinse your hair in hot water, instead rinse in warm or cool temperatures.

5. ADD A GLAZE OR TONE IT

Try adding a gloss to boost both shine and brightness between salon appointments or if you are a blonde, you can purchase a toner and do it at home to get rid of the brassiness or use a purple shampoo once or twice a week.

6. SPF

Hair sunscreens do exist. Ultraviolet rays can penetrate the hair's cuticle and oxidize or bleach the colour. Not only are you protecting your hair, you are also protecting your scalp from burning also.
{Redken has a product called  "Color Extend Sun" which is an SPF 25}

7. POOL WATER

Mineral deposits that are found in pool water are what lead to that "feared" green or orange tinged hair after being in a pool all day. I once read an article that if you apply a few drops of baby oil to dry hair before swimming, this will prevent that green tinge that some of us get, especially blondes. Once you have finished swimming, immediately rinse your hair with water.

FOR THE BLONDES:

I read in a magazine recently that if your hair becomes green from being in a swimming pool (which all of us have experienced I am sure}, all you have to do to get rid of it is to apply tomato juice {V8} to your hair. The red juice neutralizes the green bringing your blonde locks back to life.
No I haven't tried this but who would have thought? If you have tried this or have heard about it before, please let me know in the comments below, I am curious lol...

Happy Wednesday and thanks for reading, xo!!

Benefits of brushing your hair regularly

Image via Pinterest

I always knew the benefits of brushing my hair and the importance of it in keeping my locks looking healthy. As mentioned in my last post here, I never use to brush my hair as I was afraid of my hair breaking. Now that I have a brush that I love (and not afraid of using for that matter) I can honestly say I now love brushing my hair. For those who don't really know the benefits and the importance of brushing your hair, then keep reading.

{1} Choose the right brush for your hair type- Those with finer hair would need a brush that is more gentle on the hair while those who have thicker and coarser hair would need a stronger brush or a blend of synthetic and natural fibers.

{2} Brushing your hair stimulates micro-circulation and therefore relaxes your scalp- It also removes any impurities it has accumulated during the day. Brushing your hair is also a way of adding life and volume as long as you brush it properly.

{3} Never untangle or brush your hair when your hair is wet- Well let's face it, we all tend to comb our hair when we first get out of the shower, I know I do but our hair is very flexible when damp, and brushing it can make it break. A wide tooth comb is a great option to prevent breakage. To untangle your hair without causing any damage, make sure you start combing gently at the ends of the hair and work your way up.

{4} Brushing your hair regularly can make your hair appear more shiny- Combing your hair properly can activate the natural oils secreted by the hair oil glands and as you brush your hair the oils are being distributed from the root to the ends of the hair.

{5} Brush your hair less not more- Brushing your hair with vigorous, powerful strokes damages it. Keep brushing and styling to a minimum.

{6} Wait until your hair is almost dry before using a brush to style it-  It is simply easier to style slightly damp hair than it is wet and it is less damaging as well.

{7} It removes accumulated dirt and sebum-  If you think about it, we apply a lot of products (chemicals) to our hair and it often remains in our hair causing it to feel rough and hard to detangle. Combing regularly can make sure locks are free from deposits and it stimulates hormone secretion. This makes you hair grow properly.

Make Your Hairbrush Last!
There are a lot of different priced brushes out there while some being really expensive. Expensive or not why not take care of it as long as you can? Do this by regularly removing all of the hair that gets stuck in the brush and clean it once a month with warm water and a small amount of shampoo (baby shampoo is a great option).

The following products below are some amazing brushes/combs and shampoo's/conditioners that I highly recommend and they are also some products that I currently use as well!

The Boar Bristle Brush

Hey everyone!
I hope you all had a fabulous long weekend.

I recently went to my hair salon and like everyone, I always like to ask a lot of questions and what products would be best for my hair etc... I was telling my hair colourist that my hair is naturally pretty oily and that I have to wash my hair every other day. There is just no way I can go any longer without washing my hair then that. I thought at this point she was going to ask me what products I use on my hair, but instead she asked me if I comb my hair, how frequently and what do I use to comb it with.

Ok so before I go on I have a confession to make!
I don't comb my hair and I never have. Yes, you read that right. The only time I will comb my hair is if I have just washed it. I guess I can honestly say that the reason why I never have was because I was always afraid that my hair would break due to the fact that I have thinner hair and that it is coloured treated.

She told me one of the best brushes to use is a natural boar bristle brush!
So I went to Sally's and decided to pick up the Hot N Silky Boar Bristle Oval Cushion Brush.  I chose to get this one because it seemed a little softer than some of the others and it was cheaper.

What is so great about this brush?
The Boar bristles distribute the natural oils throughout your hair. Instead of the oils sitting at the crown of your head or along your hair line, the boar bristles allow the oils to be distributed down the hair shaft to the ends of the hair where the hair is normally "dryer" which allows your natural oils to be absorb in and give shine. It also minimizes breakage, split ends, and it's great for detangling. This brush is also great for people who have thick coarse hair.

I have been using this brush for just over a week and I can honestly say that I really like this brush a lot. I am not scared to use this brush like some of the other plastic or wire brushes that can be too rough on your hair. It's very gentle and I have seen a difference with the oils in my hair. The day I don't wash my hair, my hair doesn't look as oily at the crown of my head or along the hair line and my hair does look more shiny especially on the ends.

I am really glad that I purchased this brush {I am sure my hair loves me for it also lol} and I would really recommend this brush to anyone. I hope this information was helpful.

 Have a lovely day!

Hair Care

This post goes hand in hand with my last post I did when I was transitioning to brown hair and then going back to blonde. During this process I experienced breakage and my hair became really dry while slowly going back to blonde. For those who have experienced this type of transition before you know how devastating it is..

Taking care of your hair is extremely important and depending on the texture of your hair whether it's colour treated, curly, thick, coarse etc. You want to make sure that you are using the right products for your hair type.

When I was experiencing breakage and dryness I took EXTRA care of my hair by using absolutely no heat on my hair for the first couple of months and did a lot of hair conditioning treatments. To this day I still don't blow dry my hair when it's wet. I let it air dry and then once dried I will then round brush my hair, curl it, straighten it etc. I am so used to doing this that when I go to the salon to get my hair done I literally leave there with wet hair {Call me obsessive I don't care}. Honestly though I have seen a HUGE difference in my hair by doing this and as we all know heat is not good for our hair period!

Now on to my current hair care products:

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo
It's sulfate-free, salt-free, has an AntiFadeComplex that won't strip colour. This shampoo is really moisturizing especially if you have dry hair and it doesn't weigh my hair down which is great.

 L'Oreal Professionnel Silver Shampoo
Now if you are a blonde you know that using a purple shampoo is a definite must! {No one likes brassy hair}. I use this about twice a week and let it sit on my hair for about 10- 15 minutes. This is the only purple/blue shampoo I have tried that "actually" works for me. I know there is another L'Oreal purple shampoo called "Shine Blonde" and that one didn't work as good as the L'Oreal Silver.

L'Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Conditioning Masque
This stuff is amazing when your hair is feeling dry. I use this once a week and leave it on for 3-5 minutes. I love using this when I first get my hair done it just makes my hair so soft and the smell is incredible.

Sfactor Serious Conditioner with Sunflower Seed Oil
This is more of an everyday conditioner. It leaves your hair silky and soft. {Sometimes I will even leave this on my hair for 20-30 minutes}

Macadamia Deep Repair Masque
This stuff my friends is hands down my favorite conditioning masque of all time. I use this once a week and leave it on my hair for 20-40 minutes and sometimes even an hour while I am cleaning the house or watching TV. Your hair will feel amazing after using this and the smell is out of this world!!! I seriously couldn't live without this stuff..

Sfactor Heat Protectant
{UV Protection & Thermal Shield}
You can put this on wet or dry hair but I usually put this on wet hair before styling.

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment
I put a little bit of this into the balm of my hands and apply it to my hair once it's completely dried and before I have styled it to give my hair extra protection and shine. I also put a little bit more on my hair once my hair is completely styled.

Dove Dry Shampoo
{I am not the biggest fan of dry shampoo but this stuff is pretty good}
I apply it to the roots of my hair on the day's I don't wash it

I like to switch up my shampoo's every time I am done a bottle so my hair doesn't get use to the same product and plus I enjoy trying something new. I don't usually buy any other conditioners then what I have because these conditioners are absolutely amazing in my eyes and because I switch between the three of them my conditioners will last a pretty long time..{Note} If I didn't go through my bad experience with breakage and dryness I wouldn't have all these conditioners. Once my hair is completely healthy then I will probably only have one or two of them!

What are your favorite hair care products?
I am always looking for something new to try

Hope you all have a lovely day...

Sincerely Miss Ash

Blonde to Brown back to Blonde

{Note} I have always been and loved being a blonde and I never wanted to be any other colour than that.. As you read blogs, watch TV shows and seeing people at the malls you always see hair styles and colours that you love and want but some never want to take that step out of their "comfort zone" to do it.. I think a lot of people are afraid of change {I know I definitely am} but change is good sometimes and I have definitely have done that.

Over the last year and a half almost two years now, I have been experiencing different hair colours from adding lowlights to my hair to going a solid colour.

From High School up until a year and half ago, I have always been a blonde and thought I needed to change things up a bit and do something different for once.

I first started off by adding lowlights to my hair with a "Demi Permanent" colour {this is a great option for those who want to change things up without the colour being completely permanent}. Depending on how much you wash your hair will obviously depend on how long the colour will last. For me I am a girl that washes her hair every other day so it lasted for at least 3 weeks before it started to really fade. This was a good start for me because if I hated it then it wouldn't matter it would just fade anyways...

This Picture below is when I started to add the lowlights underneath my hair and a little bit throughout my hair called "peek a boos" {hopefully you can see them as I didn't add to much to start with}:

I ended up really liking the lowlights and did it a second time after that.
Once I knew I liked it over a couple of months, I ended up getting even more daring and did highlights with an "all over Demi Permanent" colour. Let me tell you I was so nervous to do this as I have never done it before and was praying that I would like it.
Well I ended LOVING it.

These two pictures are with the highlights and an all over colour:

OKAY so I did this for about 2-3 months and ended up loving it each time I went but I hated that it was fading because it was "Demi Permanent." SO I thought to myself am I ready to take the plunge and go even darker and perhaps going "Brunette"?

After several months of looking at pictures on blogs and Googling celebrities and what not. I found a picture that I loved enough to bring into the salon with me {I always do this because I feel like the hair colourist knows exactly what I want by showing a picture vs trying to describe it with words}.

The picture I brought in was a girl that was on the Bachelor a few episodes back on "Season 12" and she was also on the Bachelor Pad 2 her name is Holly Durst. She actually used to be a blonde and because she has blue eyes like me and the same skin tone as me, I thought this picture would be the best to bring in.

This was the picture that I brought into the salon:

So I saw the transition she went through and I knew I had to do it but go PERMANENT! I was scared shitless not going to lie and I had ALWAYS wanted to take the plunge and just go for it. I talked about it so much that my boyfriend didn't even believe me when I told him I was going to the salon to become a brunette well he was so wrong. lol

After sitting in the salon chair watching my hair go darker and darker this time being a "permanent colour" then getting it rinsed and back I go in the chair for my blow dry, let me just say when I looked in the mirror I DID NOT recognize myself at all. I just straight up didn't like it. I knew it was way darker then what I was getting prior and knowing that this time the colour was permanent made me feel so sick.

This was the outcome:

It was such a drastic change that people didn't even recognizing me at work as well as some friends of mine {obviously this was to be expected} lol. I also had to change the way I wore my makeup to wearing different clothing. Who would have thought by going to a different hair colour would change your whole wardrobe and your makeup routine?! "Annoying"

A couple days after being a brunette I had to go back and get some blonde added to my hair, I just couldn't take it anymore. "Now if someone would have told me that if you go dark and then add blonde to your hair that quickly that your hair would potentially break" I WOULD HAVE NEVER OF DONE IT!!!

My hair was breaking which I have never experienced before in my life, my hair became so dry along with hating the colour all at the same time. It was a bloody nightmare!! So for those who are thinking of changing your hair colour keep in mind that this could happen to you...

This picture is when I slowly started to add blonde
{The lighting in this picture isn't the greatest, I promise my blonde didn't look this brassy} lol

It will be 2 years this August that I went solid brown. My hair is starting to get a lot healthier now but it's definitely taking a long time. I am at a point where I am loving my hair again and I am back blonde with my natural colour in between so when it grows out my roots don't look as noticeable. Everything blends really nicely and I can go longer in between appointments vs going every 5 weeks when I used to be solid blonde {BONUS}. I would like to go blonder eventually but for now I am staying put.

I have been using so many conditioning treatments to not colouring underneath my hair {leaving it as my natural hair colour} to not blow drying it and letting it air dry. Of course once my hair has air dried I would style it afterwards whether I am curling it or whatever but if I can keep as much heat off my hair as possible then my hair is happy!

This is what my hair looks like right now:

Now that I look back I am so glad that I took the plunge and just went for it. If I were to do it again I would do the "Demi Permanent" with highlights again like my second and third picture above. I really really liked my hair then and would totally do it again!
**The following products below are what helped me get the health and shine back in my hair from this process of going sold brown to blonde. Within 2-3 weeks I started to see a big improvement on the way my hair looked and felt. I would really recommend these products, you will love me for it, I promise.

PURPLE SHAMPOO:
The best purple shampoo I have ever used is the VEGAN NO YELLOW SHAMPOO by Fanola.
**You can use my Discount Code: SINCERELYMISSASH at Salonguys.com at checkout to receive 10% off on any Fanola product.

I have also uploaded two videos on my YouTube channel that you will find helpful if you have experience hair damage/breakage or if you are looking for a purple shampoo to eliminate yellow brassy tones in your hair.
