Wearing a red lip is a quick way to glam up any look while also looking classy and chic, but picking a red lipstick to compliment your skin tone is more important than you might think. Wearing a lipstick that is too bright for your skin tone can leave you looking like a clown and something that is too blue-based can also leave you looking like you have frost bitten lips.
The following is a break down on which reds go best with different skin tones {In case you are all wondering, I have light to medium skin but more on the light side}. If you are not any of these skin tones, then just find an in between colour of the two closest shades OR, if in doubt, just go for a coral- red since it is a universally flattering colour and it looks good on everyone.
Fair Skin Tones
{Pink and yellow undertones}
- For pink undertones, go with a coral red or a matte red with a hint of orange in it
- For yellow undertones, go for a coral or brick red that is a bit on the warmer side
Medium to Bronzed Skin Tones
{Olive to golden skin}
- Luckily for you, most shades will work with your skin tone, so go crazy!
- Pink based reds, cranberry and true reds look beautiful with your skin tone
Dark Skin Tones
{Deeper complexions with cool undertones}
- Blue-based reds and/or cool shades like fig, dark cherry, plum red look best with your colouring
- Anything brighter than those shades can sometimes look a little too harsh
Though, you can wear whatever shade lipstick you want, these are just tips on what reds look best with each skin tone.

This is so great! I've always known basic red doesn't look good on EVERYONE, but it's helpful to know exactly what kind of shade to reach for.
